--- Saturday 22nd May 2010 ---

What better way to enjoy Bluff hospitality than to be surrounded by mountains of fresh seafood and delicious food, fine wine and great entertainment?  This year’s festival is going to be bigger and better than ever.  The 2010 Bluff Oyster & Food Festival is taking place in Bluff on Saturday the 22nd May.  The Bluff Community will again throw open its doors at 11a.m and welcome enthusiastic oyster and food lovers to participate in a fun filled day.

Background

A Bluff Oyster & Seafood Festival has been held in the port town for many years, it started back in 1991.  It was from this original community orientated event that the Bluff Oyster & Seafood Festival evolved and grew into the national event that it has become.

The 2008 Festival was a major success after changes were made following the previous years event.  Those changes were well received by the public.  Over recent years Venture Southland attempted to maintain and develop the Bluff Oyster and Seafood Festival, held in Bluff.  However, escalating costs led to significant losses.  In December 2007, from a public meeting held in Bluff Town Hall a resolution was passed to proceed with the Bluff Oyster and Food Festival in 2008.

It might have been a miserable day weather–wise last year but, in true southern fashion a few drops of rain was never going to put a dampener on the spirit of Festival goers.

Food lovers come from all over the world to soak up a plethora of entertainment, gourmet delicacies and, of course truckloads of Bluff oysters.
